Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT) developer OpenAI Inc.’s ousted chief executive officer Sam Altman is set to join Microsoft Corp.

Altman and Greg Brockman, together with colleagues, will be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced artificial intelligence (AI) research team, the global software giant said in a blog.

“We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success,” Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella said.

Last week, OpenAI fired Altman saying the board lost confidence in his ability to lead the company. Brockman also stepped down as chairman of the board.

Microsoft, which backs OpenAI, said it remains committed to its partnership with the ChatGPT creator.

The company is looking forward to getting to know Emmett Shear and OpenAI’s new leadership team and working with them, it noted.

OpenAI, whose investors include Microsoft, Reid Hoffman’s charitable foundation, and Khosla Ventures, launched ChatGPT in November 2022. ChatGPT, which interacts in a conversational way, is an advanced AI chatbot.

The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests, according to OpenAI.
