Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) appointed Rohit Jawa as the company’s managing director & chief executive officer, effective 27 June.

Jawa is currently the Chief of Transformation for Unilever in London, India's largest fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) maker said in a stock exchange announcement. He will join HUL as the CEO designate and whole-time director from 1 April and remain in the position until 26 June.

HUL said Jawa will succeed Sanjiv Mehta as the MD & CEO of the company with effect from 27 June for five years, subject to shareholders’ and other statutory approvals.

Mehta is retiring from the company after a transformational tenure of 10 years at the helm of HUL, it added.

The FMCG company said Jawa will join the Unilever Leadership Executive from 1 April and also take over as the president of Unilever South Asia.

In addition, HUL said its board appointed Ranjay Gulati as an independent director of the company for five years with effect from 1 April. The appointment will be subject to approval of shareholders.

Gulati has a rich understanding of business strategy and is presently, a professor at Harvard Business School, according to the statement. He is an expert on organizational growth and until recently, chaired the Advanced Management Program, the school’s flagship Senior Leader Executive Program, it said.
