Law firm DSK Legal’s Chief Executive Officer Padmini Rathore is set to join Khaitan & Co as the chief practice officer.

Rathore, who has resigned from DSK Legal, will oversee, strategize, and manage Khaitan & Co’s practice and sector groups in collaboration with the leaders of its various practices, a person aware of the development said.

Khaitan & Co’s practice areas include banking and finance, capital markets, competition/antitrust, corporate and commercial, estate planning, trusts and private client, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, white collar crime, as well as restructuring and insolvency, according to its website.

The law firm, which currently has a bench strength of more than 1,000 lawyers, also recently hired a chief risk, audit & compliance officer as well as a chief digital officer.

Before joining DSK Legal as CEO in 2018, Rathore was the principal and head of consulting at Rainmaker Online Training Solutions. Previously, she has worked with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co.

Rathore, who began her career with GroupM as a media planner, later also worked with consulting firm Accenture and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare.

The latest development comes after the Bar Council of India (BCI) in March allowed foreign lawyers and foreign law firms to practice foreign law in India on a reciprocity basis.

Several Indian law firms have decided to go back to the drawing board to chalk out their strategies to compete with deep-pocket firms from the mature markets such as the UK, the US and Japan.
