Azure Power Global Ltd. appointed Sunil Gupta as the chief executive officer of the Indian energy solutions provider and renewable power producer.

Gupta will join the company on 10 July, replacing the acting CEO Rupesh Agrawal, who will be leaving at that time to pursue other opportunities, Azure Power said in a statement.

Gupta will also become managing director of the company’s subsidiary Azure Power India Private Ltd., it noted.

The company said prior to Azure Power, Gupta was the head - Southeast Asia & South Asia business at renewable energy company Vena Energy, managing existing business and developing new projects.

Earlier, Gupta was the group head of renewable energy business at Sembcorp Industries and before joining Sembcorp, he was a cleantech industry professional with Standard Chartered Bank and Morgan Stanley, it added.

Azure Power Chairman Alan Rosling said Gupta’s deep experience of creating value in the sector, understanding of international standards of governance, and vast experience of capital raising will benefit the company going forward.

Group CFO Appointment

Azure Power also said that to strengthen its overall governance and control, Sugata Sircar has joined the company as group chief financial officer, with effect from 1 May. He also joined as executive director - finance of Azure Power India, it added.

The company said Sircar, who joined Azure Power’s board as a non-executive independent director in 2022, has resigned from this position.

Sircar has more than 32 years of experience in energy and automation, chemicals, textiles, tires, FMCG and city gas distribution, according to the statement. Most recently, he served as CFO at Schneider Electric India, it said.

“My priority will be finalizing Azure's consolidated accounts and strengthening overall governance and control,” Sircar said in the statement.

The company noted that Pawan Agrawal will continue as CFO of Azure Power India and its group of subsidiaries, reporting to Sircar.
