Spencer’s Retail Ltd. said its board appointed Anuj Singh as the managing director and chief executive officer of the company.

The appointment is effective from 22 March for three years, the Indian retail chain operator said in a stock exchange announcement. The appointment is subject to the approval of shareholders, it added.

Spencer’s Retail said Singh has more than two-and-half decades of leadership experience across leading organizations in India, the Middle East and Europe.

Singh, who has previously worked with Nestle and Walmart India, was the country head for General Mills India in his immediate past assignment, it noted.

The company said Singh is a Bachelors in Statistics from Delhi University, a post-graduate in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, and an MBA from the London Business School.

Spencer’s Retail, part of RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, is a multi-format retailer providing a wide range of products across categories such as food, personal care, fashion, home essentials, electrical and electronics, according to its website.
