Somasekhar Sundaresan Appointed As Additional Judge Of Bombay High Court

India’s central government on Thursday appointed attorney Somasekhar Sundaresan as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court.

Sundaresan’s appointment is for two years with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office, according to a government notification. India’s Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also confirmed the appointment in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Sundaresan, a former partner and head of capital market practice at J Sagar & Associates, exited the firm in July 2016 to establish an independent counsel practice.

He played a pivotal role in several high-profile corporate disputes such as representing the Shapoorji Pallonji Group in its contentious clash with the Tata Trusts.

Sundaresan also recently took on the legal representation of Subhash Chandra from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., challenging the Securities & Exchange Board of India's interim order imposing restrictions on future directorship and top executive roles in listed entities.

At present, the Bombay High Court functions with a judicial roster, comprising 68 judges, against its authorized capacity of 94 judges.
