Niranjan Gupta Gets Seat To Ride World’s Largest Two-Wheeler Maker

India's Hero MotoCorp Ltd., the world’s largest two-wheeler maker, said its board appointed company insider Niranjan Gupta as its new chief executive officer, effective 1 May.

The company elevated Gupta from his current position of chief financial officer and head of strategy and M&A, the motorcycles and scooters manufacturer said in a stock exchange announcement.

Hero MotoCorp said over the past six years, Gupta has played a key role in shaping the financial health of the company in a highly competitive environment, as well as a significant role in forging key partnerships with global brands such as Harley Davidson and Zero Motorcycles.

Gupta has more than 25 years of leadership experience in finance, M&As, supply chain and strategy roles across business sectors, including consumer goods, metals & mining, and automobiles, the company said. He also serves as a director on the board of Ather Energy, HMC MM Auto Private Ltd. and HMCL Colombia, it added.

Before joining Hero MotoCorp, Gupta spent three years at Vedanta Ltd. and 20 years in Unilever across global roles, according to the statement.

Hero MotoCorp said Pawan Munjal, the current chairman and CEO, will continue as the executive chairman and whole-time director on the board. The company will announce a new CFO in due course, it added.
