JSA Says Chennai-Based Law Firm CLA To Merge With Firm

Law firm J. Sagar Associates (JSA) said Chennai-based law firm Commercial Law Advisors (CLA) will merge with JSA, effective 1 October.

The merger will significantly bolster JSA capabilities and service offerings in the growing Chennai market, and more broadly across south India, along with its offices in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, JSA said in a statement.

JSA, which has over 480 professionals operating out of seven offices across India, said the merger will bring aboard a team of legal professionals, comprising four partners and 17 associates from CLA. The incoming four partners are Varun Sriram, Bhavya Sriram, Akshaya Suresh and Aravind Raj, it noted.

The law firm said the addition of CLA's attorneys will strengthen its capabilities in various practice areas, including corporate commercial, banking and finance, with focus on sectors such as financial services, healthcare, real estate, technology, privacy and data protection.

The expansion will also introduce new capabilities, including employment laws, technology, privacy and data protection law, fund structures, estate planning, and others in the Chennai office, it noted.

“We believe that their expertise and experience will enhance our ability to provide top-notch legal solutions to our clients, not just in Chennai but across India,” according to JSA.

JSA said it is poised to become one of the largest law firms in the Chennai market and southern region following the integration of CLA, which was set up by Varun Sriram and Bhavya Sriram in 2017.

JSA said with the combination of its existing team in Chennai, the firm’s total strength in the southern Indian city will comprise five partners with diversified expertise and over 20 associates.
