India’s National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) prescribed the dress code for the legal practitioners and insolvency professionals as well as for its president and members.
The registrar of the NCLT passed the dress code order on 27 January with the approval of the tribunal’s president, according to the order posted on its website.
Following are the key recommendations:
For President & Members
The dress of the president and members should be long trousers (white/black, black striped or grey), national dress with a white shirt and collar band with a black coat/buttoned up black coat.
In the case of a female president or a member, the dress should be a sober colored saree, national dress and collar band with a black coat/buttoned up black coat.
For Legal Practitioner
The dress code for legal practitioner should be as per the code prescribed under the Bar Council of India rules under Section 49(1)(gg) of the Advocates Act 1961.
For Authorized Representative
Every authorized representative such as chartered accountant, company secretary, cost accountant should appear in his/her professional dress, if any prescribed under their respective code of conduct.
If there is no such dress code prescribed, then:
A male member should wear a sober colored dress or a national dress with a buttoned up coat, or a coat with tie.
In case of a female member, the dress should be a sober colored saree or formal national dress. A suit or buttoned up coat is optional.
For Interim Resolution Professional/Resolution Professional/Liquidator
In case of a male member, the dress should be a sober colored dress or a national dress, a suit or buttoned-up coat and tie.
In case of a female member, the dress should be a sober colored saree or national dress. A suit or buttoned up coat is optional.
For Parties In Person
Parties appearing in person before the NCLT should be properly dressed in any national dress and in sober color.
The NCLT directed all the parties to observe the prescribed dress code.
